I grew up outside of Cleveland, where I climbed trees and professed in first grade that my favorite food was mataar paneer, baffling my peers, who most commonly identified pizza and hamburgers as their answer to the “All About Me” question. I have cherished summers away from Cleveland, too, growing herbs in the northwest corner of Montana and tending to rescued farm animals in upstate New York.
